Explore the Village of Carcoar

Carcoar is a pretty village in the Central West of NSW, 3 hr 38 min (256.7 km) from Sydney.

The picture-perfect village of Carcoar the Town that Time Forgot, is nestled in a small sheltered valley beside the meandering Belubula river. With a spectacular backdrop of rolling green hills, it is easy to see why the area was a draw card for early settlers. Carcoar offers a warm welcome with coffee, boutique shops, accommodation, restaurants, events and museums.

Carcoar was awarded the NSW top tourism tiny town award in 2022 for towns with a population under 1500.

Things to do

  • Learn about the history with a walking tour map available from the Courthouse
  • Visit Carcoar Dam and Wind Farm great
  • Visit the town's 5 museums: Hospital, Toy, Courthouse, Stokes stable and Carmanhurst Military
  • Capture the charm of the town from the view of the railway station.

Nearby towns are Mandurama 8 kilometres, Millthorpe 26 kilometres, and Blayney 14 kilometres.

Kim is the owner of the rustic Flamingo in Carcoar, a paradise for shoppers seeking unique and vintage collectables, having lived in the area most of her life, Kim describes Carcoar as :a stunning little village that feels like it is enveloping you in a hug when you drive down the hills into the town itself. It makes you feel like you're home and you will want to come back." Kim has always had an an interest in the aesthetics of the 1950s - 1970s inspired by her love of 1950s rock and roll music. The store is a one stop shop for everything from vintage clothing to bright genie bottles. She also upcycles making earrings out of anything from a biscuit tin to a wooden ruler!

Did you know?

  • Established in 1839, Carcoar is the third oldest settlement West of the Blue Mountains.
  • Classified by the National Trust because of its large number of preserved 19th century buildings,
  • Highlights include well preserved Victorian buildings along the Main St. Saint Paul's Anglican Church built in 1848, the century old courthouse, and the 1849 convict built stables of Stoke House, believed to be the oldest building in the village.
