The Sainsbury Centre |
As with most other institutions, The Sainsbury Centre’s temporary exhibitions had an entrance fee of £14, while the free to access permanent galleries have lacked the creative investment they merit.
From 12 March 2023, visitors will be asked to pay only if they can and whatever they want on their way in. They will then be given an access all-areas ticket and map to explore as they like.
The initiative will be introduced in time for the opening of two new exhibitions :
- Empowering Art: Indigenous Creativity and Activism from North America’s Northwest Coast, and
- Julian Stair: Art, Death and the Afterlife. The Sainsbury Centre is one of the most prominent university art galleries in Britain, and a major national centre for the study and presentation of art.
It houses the art collection of Robert and Lisa Sainsbury, as well as the Anderson Collection of Art Nouveau and the University’s Abstract and Constructivist Collection.
