- Explore the volcanic Takachiho Gorge and marvel at the 17m-high Manai Falls from the observation deck above or from a rowboat below.
- Go on an adventure-fueled hike at Ebino Kogen. Think volcanoes, craters, mountains and incredible views.
- Visit Aoshima Shrine, located on an island about 100 metres from shore!
- Stroll the streets of Obi, a castle town that prospered from around the 16th century for over 280 years. Dress up in a rental kimono and spend the day exploring the town’s many well-preserved samurai residences, shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants.
- Witness Takachiho Yokagura, a sacred dance that has been performed for 800 years! Enjoy a short night-time version of this traditional dance at Takachiho Shrine each night. Or if visiting in November, catch the all-night performances on 22 and 23 November.
- A serving of one of Miyazaki's famous dishes, chicken namban, is also recommended. It’s deep-fried chicken dipped in a sweet vinegar dressing and commonly served with tartare sauce.
