A New Winter Tradition is About to Begin

This June, the historic heart of Maitland will glow with warmth and wonder as a bold new winter festival lights up the city. Luminous, presented by Maitland City Council, is set to become a spectacular celebration of fire, light and imagination. Taking place on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 June 2025, the event will transform The Levee Shared Zone in Central Maitland into a vibrant, sensory-rich playground timed to coincide with the year’s longest night.

An Experience to Spark the Senses

As the chill of winter deepens, Luminous offers a dazzling antidote. Visitors can expect a carefully curated program of luminous art, dramatic fire performances, and interactive installations that invite participation and delight. From striking lighting displays to the rhythm of live music and roving entertainers, the atmosphere promises to be unforgettable.

The event is designed to appeal to visitors of all ages, making it the perfect family outing or weekend escape. Whether you’re drawn by the art, the entertainment or the festive ambiance, Luminous promises something for everyone.

Highlights Along The Levee

The Levee Shared Zone, Maitland’s cultural and retail precinct, will host a range of immersive spaces and activities. On Saturday night, a fireworks display will light up the sky over the Hunter River, offering a breathtaking visual finale. The precinct’s laneways will come alive with pop-up bars and gourmet food trucks, serving up seasonal flavours and warming beverages.

A speakeasy-style bar will invite guests to step into an atmospheric hideaway, while a fire-cooking station will combine culinary flair with primal flame. It's an opportunity to see Maitland from a new perspective—one lit by innovation and community spirit.

Luminous will take place across two sessions:

• Friday 20 June 2025: 5pm – 8pm

• Saturday 21 June 2025: 11am – 8pm

Both days promise a full spectrum of experiences to explore, with Saturday’s extended hours culminating in the Hunter River fireworks display.
