Auckland’s New Star Rises: Hotel Indigo Debuts in Midtown

Hotel Indigo Auckland
Auckland has welcomed a vibrant new addition to its skyline with the opening of Hotel Indigo Auckland, the first New Zealand outpost for IHG Hotels & Resorts’ boutique lifestyle brand. Located in the city’s cultural heart on Albert Street, the 225-room hotel blends heritage, artistry, and elevated hospitality to deliver a truly local experience with global flair.

A Celebration of Local Heritage and Design

Hotel Indigo Auckland stands proudly on the site of a 1912 motor house that once imported Cadillacs into the country. This automotive history is woven into the hotel's architecture and interiors, where the contrast between heritage-listed structures and modern design elements creates a visual narrative unique to Auckland.

The hotel’s visual storytelling continues through a captivating photographic installation by Stuart Robertson, spanning all 25 accommodation levels. Each floor reveals a visual diary of Auckland life through Robertson’s lens. Inside the lobby, stylist Simone Haag has curated a dynamic space filled with handcrafted objects from local artists. From wooden sculptures and woven textures to striking ceramics and glass pieces, the space invites guests to immerse themselves in a living gallery of New Zealand creativity.

Further enriching the hotel’s cultural identity, artist and designer Raukura Turei contributes two installations that honour natural materials and ancestral connections, inviting reflection and dialogue through her deeply spiritual works.

Neighbourhood-Inspired Guest Rooms

Hotel Indigo Auckland Lobby
Hotel Indigo’s rooms carry forward the theme of local storytelling with subtle yet striking automotive-inspired design cues. Think rear-view mirrors mounted above plush king beds, open-frame wardrobes, pegboard shelving, and lighting styled like classic headlamps. Upholstery channels vintage car interiors, while custom carpets map the streets of Auckland, connecting every step of a guest's journey to the city outside.

Rooms are equipped with locally sourced treats including Kokako organic drip coffee and Karma Drinks, while bathroom amenities from MARACA's Waitematā collection add a touch of New Zealand luxury. Premium GHD appliances ensure comfort and style are never compromised.

Bienvenue Bistro Saine

At the heart of the hotel’s culinary experience is Bistro Saine, a refined French-Mediterranean restaurant led by Executive Chef Yutak Son. Infused with seasonal flavours and local ingredients, the menu reflects Son’s French training and Mediterranean inspirations, offering dishes that are both comforting and contemporary.

This is just the beginning of Hotel Indigo Auckland’s food and drink offering. The hotel will soon welcome Café Etiquette, a stylish café by day and wine bar by night, as well as The Henry, a chic cocktail lounge that nods to the golden glamour of New York and Paris nightlife.

A Landmark Location with Sky-High Views
