Behind the Scenes of AIPC: The Dedicated Leaders Shaping the Future of Convention Centres

AIPC’s CEO, Sven Bossu
The International Association of Conference Centres (AIPC) plays a pivotal role in the global events industry, not only by ensuring that convention centres adhere to the highest standards but also by fostering a community of professionals dedicated to excellence. Behind the scenes, the members of AIPC work tirelessly to elevate the convention and exhibition industry worldwide. Through a well-organized structure, this group of committed individuals strives to achieve AIPC’s mission of promoting leadership, offering education, and encouraging best practices across the sector.

At the heart of the Association’s operations is the General Assembly, the highest governing body. Reserved for full members, the General Assembly convenes to discuss, decide, and set policies that guide the direction of AIPC. The decisions made here affect the future of convention centre management globally, shaping industry trends and standards.

The Board of Directors, composed of influential figures in the events and convention management sector, is crucial in steering AIPC’s objectives. This group takes on the responsibility of defining the Association’s overarching goals, allocating resources, and ensuring that AIPC remains relevant in a rapidly changing landscape. One such influential leader is Gregory A. O'Dell, the President of AIPC and President & CEO of Oak View Group, who brings years of experience in convention centre management to the role. O'Dell is not alone in his leadership; he is joined by a dedicated team, including Vice President Julianne Jammers, who oversees the SwissTech Convention Center in Lausanne, and Treasurer Taubie Motlhabane, the CEO of the Cape Town International Convention Center. Together, these professionals ensure that AIPC is always advancing toward its mission.

The Executive Committee, tasked with legal responsibilities, ensures the smooth functioning of the organization. Their ability to act decisively when needed keeps the wheels of AIPC turning efficiently, even in urgent situations. Members of the committee have the authority to represent AIPC and make crucial decisions on behalf of the Association, further demonstrating their commitment to maintaining the high standards expected from AIPC.

AIPC’s CEO, Sven Bossu, alongside the Secretariat, leads the day-to-day operations of the Association. Bossu’s leadership is vital in carrying out the instructions of the Board of Directors while overseeing the operational aspects of AIPC. The Secretariat supports Bossu’s efforts, making sure that the Association’s work continues without interruption, from coordinating educational programs to managing research initiatives.

The professionals who are part of AIPC’s leadership team are not just figures on paper; they are hands-on leaders working to shape the future of convention centres. Their collective goal is clear—to make AIPC the best resource for convention centre managers worldwide and to continue fostering a culture of excellence. Their dedication and expertise form the foundation of the Association, ensuring that members are equipped with the tools and networks needed to succeed.

AIPC (International Association of Conference Centres) partnered with AIME (Asia Pacific Incentives and Meetings Expo) for a groundbreaking collaboration to host a unique summit for convention centers. Held on February 12th, 2025, at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), the inaugural event aimed to foster networking, encourage learning, and provide a platform for sharing valuable insights within the convention center community—all while ensuring an enjoyable experience for attendees.

AIPC’s commitment to excellence and its focus on collaboration and education helps the entire global convention centre community to reach new heights. From its General Assembly to its Board of Directors and Executive Committee, every individual involved is working toward the shared objective of driving industry progress and innovation. The hard work of these dedicated professionals is what keeps AIPC relevant, influential, and successful in supporting convention centre managers around the world.
