JTI and Ministry of Environment sign MoU to strengthen environmental conservation and sustainable development

JT International (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. (also known as JTI), a leading international tobacco company, together with the Ministry of Environment, represented by Danh Serey, Director General of Environmental Protection of the Ministry of Environment, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to allow JTI to cooperate more actively with the Ministry of Environment in environmental conservation and sustainable development in Cambodia.

On this special occasion, JTI also brought 33 tricycles to the Ministry of Environment to support garbage collection activities to make Cambodia clean and beautiful.

The event was held on June 27, 2024, at the Ministry of Environment under the high presidency of Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, and Ueno Atsushi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, as well as attended by the Secretary of State, Under Secretary of State, Director General of the Ministry of Environment, and representatives of national and international organisations that are partners of JTI.

The signing of this MoU confirms JTI’s commitment to environmental sustainability and corporate responsibility in line with the company’s core values and principles. The company always seeks to cooperate with the Ministry of Environment and other relevant institutions to promote better change, especially in the environment and socio-economics of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

On that occasion, the Minister said that the signing of the MoU on “Environmental Cooperation” between the Ministry of Environment and JTI clearly highlighted the contribution of the Ministry of Environment in implementing the Environmental Chakra Strategy to be more successful.

“We are extremely honoured to partner with the Ministry of Environment, and this MoU is a testament to our joint commitment to protecting the environment, sustainable development, and poverty reduction,” said Roy Manalili, CEO of JTI. It is also in line with JTI’s goal that the company can contribute to social and environmental development, create a satisfying time for the people and the community, and strive for a better future for the Kingdom of Cambodia.”
