Booking.com’s 2024 Winter Destination Data - More Travellers Intend to use AI to Plan Holidays

Booking.com’s latest search data reveals the top holiday spot for families this year, uncovering Bali as the favourite, recording a 75% YoY increase in flight searches. Additionally, Booking.com search data for accommodations revealed Bali has 3 out of the top 10 winter destinations as we flee the recent rainy weather.

Our love affair with Japan is also not slowing down, with Tokyo emerging as the second most searched destination for accommodations, jumping up three spots from last year. With the Olympics serving as a major bucket-list event in 2024, Aussies are also heading to London and Paris taking out third and ninth place in the list. China has also seen an incredible 95% YoY increase in flight searches.

Closer to home, the Gold Coast takes out the top spot for domestic destinations. Other domestic highlights this winter see Mooloolaba with a 25% YoY increase and Adelaide with a 20% YoY increase in accommodation searches.

Australians are ready for AI-enhanced travel planning this winter

In a recent study conducted by Booking.com nearly a third of Millennials (31%) and Gen Z (30%) consumers said they are likely to use AI when planning travel this winter, compared to Gen X (19%) and just 6% of all Boomers. Over one quarter (27%) of Australian travellers said they are likely to use AI to plan travel when booking holiday homes, the highest for any type of accommodation booked. Booking.com’s AI Trip Planner launched in Australia last week and is now available for travellers to use in the app.
