One movie that was filmed at Mount Lavinia Hotel is "The Bridge on the River Kwai," which was released in 1957 and directed by David Lean.

"The Bridge on the River Kwai" is considered one of the greatest films of all time and won an Oscar.

This film was shot in Sri Lanka (then called Ceylon), and a bridge was erected for the purpose of shooting the film over Kelani River at Kitulgala, Sri Lanka.

The Mount Lavinia Hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka, was featured in "The Bridge on the River Kwai," 

The hotel was used as a military hospital during World War II, so it was a fitting location for the film. The hotel's history dates back to 1805, when it was built as the residence of Sir Thomas Maitland, the second governor of British Ceylon. The hotel has 275 rooms and is one of the oldest and most famous hotels in Sri Lanka.
