  • 79th Anniversary of Korea's Independence - WDCH (Aug. 10)
Led by Maestro Hyun Sang Joo, the LA Phil hosts the annual Gala Concert Honoring Korea’s Independence at Walt Disney Concert Hall! This year’s artists are Korea's soprano Soon Young Kim, baritone Juan Carlos from LA Opera and Minnesota Opera's tenor Efrain Corralejo. The program includes works by Verdi, Puccini, Leoncavallo, Wagner and John Williams.

As befits the height of LA's balmy summer, this week’s Los Angeles Setlist includes previews of half a dozen outdoor spectaculars, including Foo Fighters at BMO Stadium; Laufey and Khruangbin at the Hollywood Bowl; and country star Meghan Patrick in the parking lot (!) of Kia Forum, opening for headliner Luke Bryan performing inside.

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl’s immense gift is in marrying catchy melodies to heavy guitars and punk energy to massively resonating effect. Playing two shows at BMO Stadium, Foo Fighters boasts former Germs/Nirvana guitarist and drummer Josh Freese (Guns N' Roses, A Perfect Circle) in the lineup.

Get ready for an elegantly silly time with the bilingual (English & Spanish) swingin' sounds of the GRAMMY-winning Lucy Kalantari & The Jazz Cats! The free performances will take place at 4pm in the Getty Center's Central Garden on Saturday and Sunday, August 10-11. Composer and bandleader Lucy Kalantari engages audiences with interactive, Jazz Age scat-along play, while singing her original foot-tapping songs that highlight the joys of life, community and resilience.
