  • Virgin Australia has released its guide for maximising 2024 holidays – pairing dream destinations with public holidays that will give travellers more time away for less annual leave, to double days off this year.
  • Aussies could be jetting from Cairns to Tokyo for a 11-day holiday using just six days of annual leave or enjoying a 10-day trip to Bali using only four days of annual leave.
  • Travellers can also get more for less with Virgin Australia’s 'Happy Hour' Sale every Thursday from 4-11pm AEDT, or by visiting the book early page or signing up to Virgin Australia V-mail to be the first to know about great value sale fares.
  • With many focusing on New Year resolutions like saving or savvy spending, Velocity Frequent Flyer members can also stretch their dollar further by using Points to pay for all or part of their trip.

Ticking off the travel bucket list in 2024 just got easier for millions of Australians facing post-holiday blues with Virgin Australia dropping its 2024 annual leave hacks, helping travellers double their days off this year.

From a 11-day holiday for just six days of annual leave, to a 10-day break for only four days out of the office, the guide, paired with the perfect seasonal destinations, will see Australians get more from their 2024.

Key national holiday dates to nab extended time off in 2024

  • January: Depart the evening of Friday 19 January 2024 and return on Sunday 28 January 2024 (nine-day break for only four days of annual leave)
  • Easter (March/April): Depart evening Thursday 28 March 2024 and return on Sunday 7 April 2024 (10-day break and for only four days of annual leave)
  • ANZAC Day Weekend (April): Depart the evening of Wednesday 24 April 2024 and return on Sunday 5 May 2024 (11-day break for only six days annual leave)
  • December: Depart the evening of Friday 20 December 2024 and return on Thursday 2 January 2025 (12-day holiday for only five days annual leave)

January: 

Tickle the tastebuds in Tasmania or bliss-out in tropical Fiji

Take a flight on Friday 19 January 2024, and leave from 22-25 January 2024 to enjoy a nine-day break for only four days of annual leave.
Travellers can taste their way through Tassie on a road trip along the cheese and wine trail with an evening flight from Sydney or Melbourne to Hobart.

Or for a beach getaway, dive straight into paradise with a morning flight to Fiji. Stay at a resort on Denarau Island for easy access to day trips on the reef or combine travels with an island experience, checking into one of the many resorts in the Mamanucas Islands.

March/April: 

Relaxing the Balinese way or get sun-soaked on the Great Barrier Reef this Easter
Take an evening flight on Thursday 28 March 2024, and return to work on Sunday 7 April to have a 10-day holiday using only four days of annual leave.

Book a flight for the evening of Wednesday 24 April 2024 and take 26, 29, 30 April and 1, 2, 3 May 2024 as leave to have a 11-day holiday using only six days of annual leave. For a short and sweet getaway, have a four-day long weekend by taking 26 April 2024 off. 

Indulge in vibrant Adelaide with endless eateries and wineries to choose from. Work during the day and catch a night flight to Adelaide to maximise an April holiday.

December festive season:
