Did you know that cherry blossom season starts earlier in Okinawa than in the rest of Japan?

Cherry blossoms
Cherry blossom season in Okinawa typically begins around mid-January and ends in mid-February each year due to the region's subtropical climate.

One popular spot to enjoy these blossoms is the Nakijin Castle Ruins, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Annually, the Nakijin Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates the blooming of cherry blossoms in Okinawa, offering visitors a chance to admire these stunning flowers at a historic site.

This year's festival runs from 20 to 28 January 2024, featuring traditional shows, festival shops, and a light-up display that illuminates the nighttime Nakijin Castle Ruins adorned with blooming cherry blossoms!
