Bendigo took the Silver award for Top Tourism Town, followed by Frankston which was awarded Bronze. For the Top Small Tourism Town, Heathcote came second (awarded Silver), and Woodend third (awarded Bronze). For the Top Tiny Tourism Town award, Red Hill South was awarded Silver, followed closely by Jamieson, which achieved Bronze recognition.
The Awards, hosted by the Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC), recognise and celebrate towns that provide an outstanding visitor experience. Seventeen outstanding finalists were competing for the top awards in 2023.
VTIC Chief Executive, Felicia Mariani, said the awards showcased the diverse range of regional destinations in Victoria and the economic impact tourism brings to these towns.
“Tourism is the lifeblood of our regional towns and centres across Victoria and these awards celebrate the commitment of these destinations to delivering the very best experiences, ensuring they create magical memories for their visitors to cherish.”
This year’s Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards were delivered with the support of the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) as the naming rights partner.
TAC CEO Tracey Slatter said the TAC’s sponsorship of the Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards provided an important opportunity to promote road safety through tourism.
“These awards are an important opportunity to celebrate the value of regional towns across Victoria, and highlight the powerful platform they hold in communicating vital road safety messages to those travelling across our state’s vast road network.”
The TAC Victorian Top Tourism Town Awards are also supported by the Department of Transport and Planning, Storytowns, Time Out Melbourne, Tourism Australia and Victoria University.
The three Victorian Gold winners will now go on to compete for the coveted title of Australia’s Top Tourism Town in their respective categories, which will be announced on the 14th of September at Parliament House, Canberra.
“We congratulate all the finalists in these special Awards and we wish the best of luck to our Gold winners who will now represent Victoria in the national competition,” Ms Mariani concluded.
