Menorca : European Region of Gastronomy

Arts & Crafts Fair
The island of Menorca is celebrating its role as European Region of Gastronomy 2022, a distinction granted at the end of 2019 by the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism.

Menorca, one of Spain’s Balearic islands in the Mediterranean, is more low-key than neighbouring Mallorca (Majorca) and Ibiza.

During its year as European Region of Gastronomy 2022, Menorca will offer an extensive program of food-based events.

These will promote the benefits and use of local produce and ingredients made by small agri-food companies as well as catering businesses.

There will be fairs dedicated to Mahón Menorca cheese; Menorcan Wine tasting days and a national chef competition. Later in the year activities include :

Mostra de Cuina Menorquina (Menorcan Cuisine Fair)
This annual, 10-day, event in September will see a wide selection of the island’s restaurants showcasing traditional and innovative recipes prepared with local and seasonal ingredients.

The Artisan Fair
The Artisan Fair at Plaça Espanya in October will see a range of gastronomy related stalls. There will also be hands-on workshops, music performances and local arts and crafts demonstrations.

Menorca-Mahón Cheese Fair
Also in October, the city of Mahón, which is part of the European Cheese Route, will stage the first Menorca-Mahón Cheese Fair to celebrate this Denomination of Origin delicacy.

Tasta Maó tapas
Bringing Menorca’s Gastronomy program to a close, the Tasta Maó tapas contest in November.
