Brisbane Gives Warm Winter Welcome

Brisbane is offering a smorgasbord of reasons to make the city the place to be this winter, with a robust line-up of new and annual events adding to the city's enviable winter climate, exceptional hotels and leisure attractions.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk recently announced Brisbane's winter tourism campaign highlighting special and exclusive events in the coming months.

“Anyone interested in the arts, culture, sport, carnivals or festivals will be catered for in Brisbane this winter,” Cr Quirk said.

“From annual favourites such as the Brisbane Festival and State of Origin to exclusives including American Ballet Theatre and Harvest, variety is the hallmark of the events on offer from now until September.”

Cr Quirk said more information on specific events could be found on the revamped Visit Brisbane website – visitbrisbane.com.au – which was now a one-stop-shop for visitors and local residents.

“The new Visit Brisbane website is an interactive resource for everyone looking to enjoy the best Brisbane has to offer,” he said.

“The winter tourism promotion and Visit Brisbane website, backed up by the Give me Brisbane Any Day campaign, are designed to encourage locals and visitors alike to become vocal advocates of the region's attractions and to share their holiday experiences and photos online.”

The new site allows users to log on and list events, contribute photos, and review their experiences, while the “Near Me” function provides an on-the-move planning tool to locate nearby wining, dining and shopping attractions.

The CEO of economic development board Brisbane Marketing, John Aitken said the city would promote Brisbane's winter events and attractions through a $460,000 television, print, cinema, billboard, and social media campaign.

“Brisbane is becoming increasingly popular as a holiday destination,” Mr Aitken said.

“The vibrancy of the city is encouraging people to add a few days to their stay when they visit for a specific event.

“The growing number and variety of precincts in the CBD and surrounding suburbs offers visitors a wide selection of accommodation, entertainment, dining and leisure options and the word is spreading through targeted campaigns.”
