Christie/Thomas Wedding 1929 |
The Windsor is eagerly waiting to spoil Andrew and Diane Wright from Colac on 13 March and John and Hilda Fraser from Donald who will receive the Royal treatment as they celebrate their 70th anniversary on the 3rd January 2014. The Frasers have been given two complimentary nights in The Windsor's Royal Suite and all the luxury trimmings including a butler who has worked at the hotel for more than 38 years.
Asked by The Windsor if they would like to stay prior to January, Mrs Fraser said: "I am extremely excited and it is an incentive to stay well and fit at the age of 91 for the next nine months!" Mrs Fraser said her secret was due to the fact that she still did all her own cleaning, cooking and rarely sat down or stopped to pause. The Windsor will ensure all daily chores are taken care of during the Fraser's stay, including provision of a butler.
On Wednesday, Mr and Mrs Wright who had their wedding reception and honeymoon at the hotel in 1973, will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary at the special rate of only $25 for the night - the same rate they paid on their wedding day.
As part of its 130th anniversary celebrations, The Windsor is offering former wedding guests of Melbourne's Grand Dame an opportunity to stay in a luxurious suite for the same price they paid on their wedding night. The offer is open for couples who were married at The Windsor. Bride and groom have been asked to send copies of their wedding photograph taken at the hotel or any receipts in order to book. Rates are based on the rate of the year they were married and is being offered for the first 15 couples to reserve in each of the following anniversary groups:
30+ years: 2 nights in a Windsor Suite: rates starting at $40 per night
40+ years: 2 nights in a Victorian Suite: rates starting at 3 pounds sterling
60+ years: complimentary accommodation for 2 nights in the Royal Suite
The Windsor is one of the world's oldest Grand hotels and pre-dates The Savoy in London, The Ritz in Paris, Raffles in Singapore and The Plaza and Waldorf Astoria in New York. It has been the haunt of a distinguished list of celebrities since opening its doors in 1883. Notable past and present guests include Katharine Hepburn, Sir Laurence Olivier, Vivien Leigh, Meryl Streep, Barry Humphries, Sir Robert Menzies, Paul Keating and Sir Richard Branson.
As part of its milestone anniversary celebrations, the hotel will host numerous community events throughout the year and is also asking the community to share their memories and memorabilia. From wedding photographs, parking receipts or an amusing anecdote, the hotel would love to hear from past guests.
