The Union of Myanmar Travel Association (UMTA) has officially announced its latest initiative to strengthen the country’s tourism workforce. Applications have opened for the 2025 Tour Operator and Travel Operation Management Programme, a comprehensive online training course scheduled to begin this October.

Developed in compliance with the ASEAN Common Competency Standards for Tourism Professionals (ACCSTP), the programme is designed to raise service quality, enhance competitiveness, and build business capacity in line with international benchmarks. Sessions will be conducted by experienced representatives from UMTA Human Resource Development (HRD), ensuring participants gain practical insights alongside theoretical knowledge.

Running from 10 October to 30 November, the training sessions will take place on Saturdays and Sundays from 6pm to 9pm local time. Despite being delivered virtually, the programme offers a robust curriculum covering every aspect of modern tour and travel management.

Participants will receive training in tour product and service creation, business management, digital technology in tourism, customer service, communication, and marketing strategies. Practical modules will focus on tour arrangement and implementation, safety standards, travel insurance, travel police coordination, and joint communication strategies.

This broad approach ensures that graduates of the course are equipped to handle the diverse challenges of the travel and tourism industry.

The UMTA programme is designed for a wide range of participants. It is highly recommended for those planning to establish new travel businesses, staff from existing tour companies seeking to improve their skills, and students considering future careers in tourism.

By catering to both newcomers and seasoned professionals, the training initiative strengthens Myanmar’s tourism sector at multiple levels, helping the industry prepare for sustained growth and global competition.

Affordable Access to Quality Training

The programme is also competitively priced, making it accessible to a wide audience. Course fees are set at K200,000 for UMTA members and K250,000 for non-members. For many participants, this represents a valuable investment in career advancement, skill-building, and long-term business success.
Building Myanmar’s Tourism Future

By launching this training programme, UMTA has reinforced its role as a leader in tourism development. Aligning Myanmar’s tourism professionals with ASEAN standards not only improves service delivery but also strengthens the country’s reputation as a welcoming and competitive destination for international travelers.

This forward-looking initiative promises to equip Myanmar’s tourism workforce with the tools needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving global industry.
