Marlborough to Host Sauvignon Blanc New Zealand 2027 – A Global Celebration of Wine

Sauvignon 2027
A Landmark Event Returns to the Home of Sauvignon Blanc

Marlborough, New Zealand, has been chosen once again to host the prestigious Sauvignon Blanc New Zealand 2027 Conference in February 2027. This internationally acclaimed event brings together winemakers, viticulturists, wine experts, and enthusiasts from around the world to celebrate the varietal that has made Marlborough a global name in wine.

Previously hosted in Marlborough in 2016 and 2019, the conferences were hailed as outstanding, with the 2019 edition described by delegates as “world class.” Sauvignon 2027 promises to be even more inspiring, showcasing the innovation, sustainability, and diversity of New Zealand’s wine industry.

Marlborough’s Rich Wine Heritage

The story of Sauvignon Blanc in Marlborough began in 1975 when the first vines were planted in Fairhall and Brancott. Fifty years later, the region produces almost 82% of New Zealand’s total wine volume, cementing its position as the country’s leading wine region. Marlborough is six times larger in vineyard area than Hawke’s Bay and 14 times larger than Central Otago, making it the heart of New Zealand’s wine industry.

General Manager of Wine Marlborough, Marcus Pickens, highlighted the significance of announcing Sauvignon 2027 in 2025, coinciding with the 50-year milestone since the first Sauvignon Blanc vines were planted. This anniversary marks a perfect time to honour the region’s legacy while looking forward to its future.

Showcasing World-Class Innovation and Sustainability

Sauvignon 2027
Sauvignon 2027 will attract over 400 international delegates to Marlborough. The conference provides a platform for industry leaders to highlight Marlborough’s pioneering work in viticulture, winemaking, sustainability, and innovation. Attendees will engage directly with winemakers, explore vineyards, and experience the varietal at its very source.

Mayor Nadine Taylor emphasised that Sauvignon 2027 is an opportunity to celebrate not only the region’s scale and diversity but also the global influence of Marlborough winemakers. Hosting the event in the Wairau Valley ensures delegates can immerse themselves in the vineyards and connect with the heart of the industry.

A Unique Experience in a World-Class Destination

The conference will not only deliver an estimated economic impact of over $900,000 to the region but also create unforgettable experiences for its participants. Delegates will enjoy Marlborough’s breathtaking landscapes, warm hospitality, and diverse tourism offerings. From vineyard tours and wine tastings to cruising the Marlborough Sounds and exploring local cuisine, the destination offers a perfect blend of business and leisure.

Tourism New Zealand Business Events has played a key role in securing the conference. Global Manager Penelope Ryan said the event highlights New Zealand’s ability to combine knowledge, innovation, food, wine, and natural beauty in one bucket-list destination.

Planning Your Visit to Marlborough

For wine professionals and enthusiasts, Sauvignon 2027 is not only a conference but a rare opportunity to experience the birthplace of New Zealand’s most famous wine. Visitors can extend their stay to explore the region’s vineyards, gourmet dining, coastal beauty, and outdoor adventures.
