The Cambridge Hotel is conveniently located on the city-fringe of Sydney in the vibrant and diverse suburb of Surry Hills.
On a recent trip to Sydney I stayed at the Cambridge Hotel and came to appreciate all it offers.
The reception staff were very friendly and made checking in easy. I was impressed with their relaxed but professional approach. They made me feel very welcome and right at home. They were helpful when I asked for directions as they had good local knowledge.
I was efficiently checked in and was soon in one of the two lifts on my way to my room on the 13th floor. It is good to see the hotel in environmentally conscious, as the hallways are lit by sensor lights. This means that they are not burning electricity all night when no one is in the hallways.
The Cambridge Hotel has a variety of guest room styles available, including Standard, Premium, One Bedroom Deluxe, Deluxe Balcony and Deluxe Spa rooms.
I enjoyed my stay in a spacious Deluxe Balcony room. The open-planned guest room was located high up on floor 13 which gave wonderful views over the city through the large window and from the outside balcony. The clock tower of Central Station could be seen in the distance, and the sails of the Opera House could be seen when looking to the right when on the balcony.
The room featured a comfy two-seater lounge and a work alcove with desk and lamp.
A wardrobe had hanging space, and included a safe and a well stocked reasonably priced mini-bar. An electric jug and tea and coffee supplies made a late night cuppa possible.
I made the room a comfortable temperature with the individually controlled air-conditioner-heater,.
The large flat screen TV with eight cable channels was mounted on a wall bracket that could swing out to either face the lounge or the other way to face the bed - handy for late night TV viewing.
The room also had a direct dial phone and a ipod docking station.
The king bed was very comfortable with crispy white sheets and plenty of pillow types to choose from. The bathroom had a mirrored vanity, toilet and shower over a full sized bath tub. The shower head was really good, with plenty of hot water and great water pressure. A supply of quality toiletries and a hairdryer was on hand.
I appreciated the quietness of the room, as I heard no outside traffic or pedestrian noise, and no noise from other guests in the hotel. I also appreciated the spaciousness and cleanliness of the room.
The onsite Baccomatto Osteria restaurant serves delicious Italian food and wine using the freshest of ingredients and incredible passion in everything they cook. It offers a selection of tapas-style starters, homemade pasta, sumptuous mains and desserts. There are lunch and dinner specials just for hotel guests. Room service is available 24 hours a day for hotel guests who prefer to eat in their rooms.
Cambridge Hotel guests can enjoy daily breakfast at Baccomatto Osteria for just $20 per person. The buffet Breakfast includes hot dishes such as toast, hash browns, bacon, various styles of eggs, sausages, a selection of fruit, muesli and yoghurt, & barrista Italian coffee.
The hotel has its own indoor pool and jacuzzi for hotel guests to use. Hotel guests also have access to a nearby gym if they feel like working out.
I appreciated the handy location of the Cambridge Hotel Sydney. It is in a quite area just outside the hustle and bustle of downtown Sydney. Getting there is easy, as it is just a few blocks from Central and Museum Stations. There is a bus stop just a block away for catching a bus to Circular Quay or to Bondi. It is within walking distance of the shopping precincts of Crown Street and Oxford Street with their trendy cafes, bars and restaurants.
I enjoyed my two nights stay at the Cambridge Hotel. I liked the free daily newspapers available in the lobby. A nice touch was being given a personalised chocolate on checking out. It is those nice little things that make a hotel stay a great hotel stay.
I would recommend the Cambridge Hotel for the business or leisure traveller looking for reasonably priced accommodation on their next visit to Sydney.
