With Mexico recently recognised as the number one destination for luxury travellers from across the world (according to a 2016 survey by luxury travel network Virtuoso), the country is also the home of a buoyant population looking to explore the world. The number of Mexican travellers is expected to exceed 20 million outbound trips with outbound tourism spending expected to reach $US 7 billion by 2017.
In September, Mayakoba, Riviera Maya on Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula will play host to the fifth edition of the leading luxury travel event for the continent: ILTM Americas 2016.
Organised by Reed Travel Exhibitions, ILTM Americas hosts the most innovative and exclusive luxury travel suppliers from across the globe to meet with travel agents that represent only the wealthiest travellers from across North America. The number of participants invited to take part in ILTM Americas each year grows by an average of 20% each year.
“Mexican luxury travellers are educated, cultured and enthusiastic explorers. They are not looking for places to just stay, they are seeking real life experiences,” said Simon Mayle, ILTM Americas Event Manager. “The US market also continues to grow with 73 million Americans travelling overseas in 2015 and a stronger dollar indicating further increases in 2016.”
New participants at ILTM Americas 2016 include Cristalino Lodge in Brazil, Hotel B Lima in Peru, Journey Mexico, Nine World Iceland, Carmelo Resort & Spa in Uruguay and Alila Hotels in Bali. Each will meet luxury travel agents from the Americas on a mutually matched, one-to-one basis in up to 60 appointments each throughout the 3 day event. Social networking opportunities run alongside the business format of the event, all taking place in the exclusive Fairmont Mayakoba Hotel in Riviera Maya.
Mr Mayle concluded: “Mexico is growing in more ways than one and all for the benefit of the world’s most discerning travellers; not just the country’s infrastructure but a host of new exclusive services and luxury destinations such as Los Cabos, Riviera Maya, Holbox Island and San Miguel de Allende are also emerging. In addition, the recent increase in the value of the dollar is already indicating an increase in the number of North American visitors to Mexico this year – a figure that already grew by almost 17% in 2015, year on year.”
