Backyard Travel Release New Myanmar Tour: Inle Lake's Enchanting Phaung Daw U Festival

Backyard Travel, the online boutique travel agency specializing in unique and insider tours to Asia has today released news of a special new tour that explores Myanmar's beautiful Inle Lake, and gives travellers the opportunity to experience an incredible local festival, the enchanting Phaung Daw U.

The unique four-day, three-night tour has just one departure date per year, (Thursday 9th October this year) as is timed to coincide with the wonderful spectacle of the last day of the 18 day long Phaung Daw U Festival. The local festival, unknown outside of Myanmar, centers on the procession of different boats on Inle Lake, with a beautiful royal barge heading the convoy, carrying golden Buddha images from the Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda.

This captivating Myanmar tour gives travellers the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of Inle Lake from on board a private motorboat, taking them to some extraordinary floating markets, fascinating stilt-house villages, and the chance to discover local hill tribes such as the Shan and the Pa-Oh.

The fully guided tour takes travellers to different cultural sites, such as the beautiful Shwe Yan Pyay Monastery, which has a superb collection of Buddha effigies and intricate wooden carvings, and the picturesque stupas of the Alaung Sitthou area, offering magnificent views of the lake and the Shan Mountains in the background.

The insider's tour ends on a highlight as travelers view the spectacular proceedings of the final day of the Phaung Daw U Festival from the brilliant vantage point outside the entrance to the Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda. Travellers will be able to interact with the crowds of enthusiastic locals that line the shore, whilst the royal barge passes by with the golden Buddha images on board.

The festivities end with the extraordinary spectacle of competitive boat races between the dozens of leg-rowing Inthar villagers, who propel their boats by just the use of their legs, providing a truly unique sight.

Visiting Inle Lake is unforgettable and its sheer beauty blows you away,” said Backyard Travel's General Manager Maeve Nolan. “Also as a company dedicated to insider experiences and authenticity it's great to be able to offer travelers the unique opportunity to view the special events of this wonderful local festival.”
