The Langham Xintiandi Invites Special Needs Children to Express Their Creativity at the “Langham in Angels' Eyes” Painting Competition

On 13 June 2014, 15 special needs children and three teachers from award-winning Luwan Special Needs Education School affiliated with the East China Normal University enjoyed a day of love, care and self expression at The Langham, Xintiandi, Shanghai. Supported by Wuliqiao local community, the hotel hosted a special painting competition themed Langham in Angels' Eyes for the disabled children to stimulate their creative prowess through art as part of the hotel's efforts to recognise and contribute to the local community. The event was graced by Robert Warman, chief executive officer of Langham Hospitality Group, Darwin Yan, regional director of operations and preopening support China of Langham Hospitality Group and John O'Shea, general manager of The Langham, Xintiandi, Shanghai who joined the children in the event.

The children who have intellectual disabilities and infantile autism went on hotel tour with their teachers lead by hotel's human resources team to get inspiration from the hotel's contemporary Chinese artworks, interior and exterior design before they started the painting competition. Each group received an award and all participants received a gift package for their creative artwork. The event ended with a sumptuous lunch in the hotel prepared by executive chef Jorg-Peter Nodler and his culinary team.The children's paintings will be used by the hotel in the near future to create further contributions back to the school.
