The commencement of Cebu Pacific Air flights between Manila and
Sydney from September will provide a welcome boost to visitation from
the Philippines, according to peak national industry body Tourism &
Transport Forum (TTF).
Sydney Airport has today announced the Philippine carrier will
operate four flights per week from Manila to Sydney from 9 September,
before moving to five weekly services later this year.
TTF Chief Executive Ken Morrison said the additional capacity is very valuable.
“These flights will give visitors from the Philippines more choice
and flexibility in coming to Australia, helping boost visitor numbers
from one of our near neighbours,” Mr Morrison said.
“Almost 70,000 visitors came to Australia from the Philippines in the
year to the end of April, that’s more than from either Ireland or
Italy, and arrivals are growing at 12 per cent per annum.
“These new flights will help to cater for that growing demand for
travel to Australia and generate tens of millions of dollars in
additional spending in the visitor economy.
“Tourism is an economic development strategy for Australia and
additional aviation capacity is critical to driving the increased
international visitor numbers that will underpin future growth in the
visitor economy.
“The tourism industry congratulates Sydney Airport on securing these
services and looks forward to welcoming the first Cebu Pacific Air
flight in a few months’ time.”
