Belfast’s biggest music event takes place in the magnificent surrounds of Custom House Square in the heart of the city’s historic Cathedral Quarter, and this year runs from 15–22 August.
Confirmed headline artists include Californian rock band Queens of the Stone Age, Imagine Dragons from Las Vegas and Scot rockers Biffy Clyro.
Chart-topping rapper EXAMPLE returns for his second Belsonic, while Dublin quartet Kodaline will take to the stage with special guest, Brit award-winner Tom Odell.
Support bands will include Little Matador and Black Rivers and more acts will be announced in the coming weeks.
In the seven years since the first Belsonic, the festival has attracted some of the biggest names in the music industry including Sir Tom Jones, Dizzee Rascal, Madness, Sterophonics and David Guetta.
The calibre of the music is matched by the quality of the setting. Custom House Square, dominated by the two-story Italianate Custom House, is regarded as Belfast’s premier outdoor events space.
Festival goers will be able to top and tail their Belsonic experience with a meal or a few drinks in the lively Cathedral Quarter, which has some of the city’s most cosmopolitan bars and eateries.
These range from McHugh’s Basement Bar, which dates to 1711, making it the oldest surviving building in Belfast, to the eclectic cluster of new restaurants in St Anne’s Square.
Belfast has a thriving music scene, and hot on the heels of Belsonic the city will stage the Tennent’s Vital festival (21 and 24 August) featuring the Killers, Bastille and David Guetta.
Top bands in a city centre location, with pubs, clubs, restaurants and good value accommodation nearby; it all adds up to the perfect summer music festival experience.
