Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre presents their intricate creation titled ‘Sirih Junjung’

After two months of planning and three weeks in the making, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) presented their intricate creation titled ‘Sirih Junjung’ to Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim, in conjunction with His Majesty’s official birthday celebration on 7 June 2014.

According to the Centre’s Executive Pastry Chef,Jamaluddin Zainal Abidin, “creating a cake for His Majesty the King is truly an honour and something my team and I look forward to every year.”

At 5ft (h) by 4ft (w) and 45kg, the impressive ‘Sirih Junjung’is constructed of redvelvet truffle, red velvet cupcakes, red velvet crackle cookies and red velvet square mini-cakesandfeatures the Coat of Arms of the 14 states and territories to reflect unityand a golden globe on top to symbolise the King’s approach to harmony. The magnificent, sweet presentation is also decorated with individually carved sugar moulds resemblingtraditional local arts and crafts as well as Malaysian architecture.

“Every year, we look to improve on theprevious year’s efforts. This year, we began brainstorming concepts and themes in April resulting in the most unique feature of our ‘Sirih Junjung’ creationwhich is a top layer of acrylic glassso one can see the different layers inside of the cake from top to bottom.”

Joining Chef Jamaluddin at the cake presentation ceremony at Istana Negara this morning werethe Centre’s General Manager,Alan Pryor, Executive Sous Chef Hisham Jaafar, Security Manager Hazali Zakaria and Communications Manager Kuzaimah Idris.

Note: ‘Sirih Junjung’ is a traditional arrangement or a present made of betel leaves used during Malay weddings and welcoming ceremonies.
