The expansion of international airlines into Sydney Airport
has contributed to a surge in passenger numbers for the month of June. Australia’s
biggest airport achieved its best growth in international visitors of 10.4 per
cent for June.
A four per cent growth in domestic passenger traffic also contributed to Sydney Airport recording its best ever June result of 2.86 million passengers.
New low-cost carriers, Scoot and Air Asia X, impacted on visitor numbers into Sydney from Singapore and Malaysia with visitors from those countries growing strongly at 62 and 69 per cent respectively.
Destination NSW formally welcomed inaugural flights to Sydney by Air Asia X on 2 April and by Scoot on 5 June.
