A quirky vaudevillian, retro-futuristic, sideshow romp is
the highly-anticipated newcomer to this year’s Cairns Festival Program in Queensland Australia.
The Village on Esplanade will titillate the senses day and
night throughout Cairns Festival, which this year runs from Friday 17 August to
Sunday 2 September.
Cairns Regional Council Mayor Bob Manning said the Festival
team was excited to bring this concept to Tropical North Queensland audiences.
“Cairns Festival continues to grow and inspire,” Cr Manning
said. “The Village on the Esplanade will offer new experiences, new ways to
enjoy our festival. It will be one of many highlights of the 2012 Cairns
Festival, which showcases and celebrates our region.”
Council’s Creative Cairns Manager Leslie Sparkes said The Village adds a touch of fantasy to Cairns Festival.

“Think a gilded, steam-powered carnival of delights with its
toes cooling in the lagoon under a palm tree. Be amazed and be
intrigued!”
Situated on the western events lawn of Cairns Esplanade, The Village on Esplanade will boast a colourful cluster of Moroccan tents: “The Palace”- a luscious lounge; “The Performery”- the performance tent; “The Pavilion”- the community tent; and The Castello, direct from Adelaide Fringe Festival via engagements across the UK. This little castle is a mini theatre tent packed with quirky, ridiculous and inspiring comedy acts.

acts, comedians, singers, dancers, acrobats, artists and roving performers, as
well as a solid workshop program featuring the Children's Village and "A
Big Print" for the kids by Inkmasters.
“Festival-goers are free to choose from a packed program of
entertainment and mayhem or chill out with some "Palace"
deliciousness, wander past the girls at OziChalk working their artistic
miracles on the footpaths surrounding the Village or be entertained by one of
the quirky street performers,” Ms Sparkes said.
