Cairns McDonalds Sponsors Cairns Festival 2012

A festival such as Cairns Festival 2012 would not be possible without the support of the many businesses and organisations who sponsor the festival. One such business is Cairns McDonalds, whose Owner Operator is Christine Vincent.

Christine was born in Ipswich Queensland and went to Ipswich State High school where she met her husband Keith. They have 2 children and 2 grandchildren. Christine started her working career as a hairdresser and went on to own a successful salon in Kingaroy which she sold after 7 years to purchase a Wendy’s Supa Sundaes. When McDonald’s came to Kingaroy in 1994 she applied and became Owner Operator. They operated the McDonald’s Kingaroy store for 2 years and then moved to Hobart Tasmania where over the course of 8 years they purchased a number of restaurants.

Christine and her husband moved to Cairns about 7 years ago with the opportunity of purchasing 4 restaurants. In the Cairns, Innisfail and Atherton regions there are 12 Restaurants. Christine owns 5, and there is another Owner Operator Jason Berther and his wife Tammy who own 7 restaurants.

In her spare time Christine enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, travelling, and taking the time to sit by the beach with a glass of great wine with her husband and friends where possible.

Christine Vincent
Christine loves living in Tropical North Queensland. She says "I have to keep pinching myself that I live in this paradise. The winter months in particular are amazing. To walk around in short sleeves and not to worry about coats is great! Another thing is to have the world’s best seafood at your doorstep…. such a privilege. The local people are beautiful. I made great friends very early on after moving here. I really feel like Cairns is my home."

There are a lot of things to do and see in and around Cairns. The one place in particular she loves taking visitors to is Kuranda, taking them up on the chairlift and down on the train.

Christine says that Cairns is known worldwide for its "friendly people, truly amazing seafood, beautiful beaches and fantastic weather from May – December." She says that people who have never been to Cairns for a holiday should absolutely consider making it their next holiday destination. She reinforces this by saying "Everyone that visits for a first time is blown away with the beauty of Cairns and the surrounding areas.

A not well known gem in Cairns that she rates highly is Holloways Beach. “It’s one of the smaller Northern beaches that doesn’t get enough mentions. It has a great beach that you can walk along, with 2 rivers on either side. Great for kids. Great for fishing…at certain times of the year you can throw a cast net and catch Endeavor and Banana prawns!”

Cairns Festival Parade
This years Cairns Festival commences on 17 August. There are lots of different events that will appeal to families with children of all ages. Christine comments on the Festival “It’s a great time of the year for people of all ages and families to get out and see some of the amazing cultural and fun things that Cairns has to offer”. The Cairns Festival has lots of events and activities, but Christine believes the stand-out event of this year’s Festival will be the street Parade. “I love it. No-one does this as good as Cairns!!! Everyone goes to so much effort!”

Christine’s advice to people so that they will get the most enjoyment from the Cairns Festival 2012 is to “Grab a copy of the program as soon as it comes out, or check out what is happening on line and start locking in the dates and times. If you are organized you will have the opportunity to attend so many events!”

This is the 5th year that McDonalds have sponsored the Cairns Festival. Christine says McDonalds sponsors “because it is a fantastic community event. It’s something Cairns embraces and something that I believe all businesses should support.”

McDonalds has been established in Cairns for 23 years, the first store being the Woree restaurant. Christine is proud of McDonalds’ community involvement, saying “Between our 12 restaurants Jason and myself pride ourselves on our community involvement. We are major sponsors of Junior AFL and of the Cairns Taipans as well as supporting many other sporting, community groups and schools. We have a policy of never saying no and try to help where needed where we can.”

McDonalds also provides a valuable service to ill children and their families. “Another exciting thing for us is the opening of our Palm Cove Ronald McDonald House Retreat” says Christine. “The Palm Cove Family Retreat provides a free holiday for families of children who have suffered serious illness or bereavement. The Family Retreat is a two bedroom unit located in the Mantra Amphora Resort on the beachfront of Palm Cove.”
