It would house an International Conference and Exhibition Centre, commercial, retail and apartment complexes. Transport would be boosted by an extension of the F3 Freeway from Branxton to Aberdeen, the gift of the Sydney Monorail to Aberdeen, and an underground 10,000 car park space being excavated at no cost by a local coal company. Funding would come from State Government grants, a slight increase in local rates, and the introduction of parking meters in all towns and villages in the area.
Most readers of the article recognized that the that nothing in the article was true, and smiled at the prospect that was not to be. However, a very small number of people thought that everything in the article was factual. They lamented that the quite rural atmosphere of Aberdeen would be destroyed when the development took place, and that other facilities such as a new mediacl centre should have higher priorities.
Thanks to those local dignitaries who supposedly made those outrageous statements about the new Aberdeen development and have not exiled me from my home in the Upper Hunter as a result.
