Opening in May 2012, a new attraction in Fairbanks Alaska USA combines two well-known sights - the El Dorado Gold Mine Tour and Gold Dredge No. 8.

Guests will board a narrow-gauge rail train (a replica of the historic Tanana Valley Railroad) from a viewpoint of the trans-Alaska oil pipeline and travel to the historic gold dredge. After a demonstration of sluice box mining techniques, the train continues on to the goldfields. Travellers exit the train, pan for gold (finding gold is guaranteed) and have the opportunity to explore the dredge. At the on-site gift shop guests can weigh their gold (and keep it) and enjoy a complimentary refreshments. The two-hour tour will be offered twice per day between May 15 and Sept. 26. Gold Dredge No.8 has developed a variety of experiences to offer visitors. Originally, the tour began in the 1905 Drift Mine exhibit where visitors learned about stratification and classification of the many layer above the gold bearing layer. A short stroll away in several renovated Fairbanks Creek Camp buildings, short videos with actual footage of the dredges in operation provided an overview of the entire stripping, thawing, and dredging processes. Next, visitors were guided through the dredge to view its equipment and gain a better understanding of its size. Newly added to the attraction, the 2005 Placer Mining Demonstration exhibited how the precious metal is currently pulled from the ground by small, Alaskan miners. Now, supplied with an individual "poke" of dirt, visitors learn first-hand how to pan for gold. Afterwards, panners are encouraged to wander through the attraction's Bunk House, Bath House and Dredgemaster's House as well as the Supply Center to view interpretive panels and exhibits in order to learn more about dredges, the daily life of the dredge crews, and the operations of the F.E. Company.
