In the late 1980s cruise ships were welcoming almost four
million passengers a year. Now that has increased to more than 19 million
people setting sail on cruises each year. Superb new ships have arrived on the
cruise scene, including the 256-passenger Viking Emerald and the 4,000-passenger
Disney Dream. The Condé Nast Traveler
2012 annual readers poll results have just been released. In response cruise
lines are expanding. An armada of ships will launch this year, starting in
March with Disney Fantasy.

Condé Nast Traveler readers rated 479 cruise ships on a
100-point scale. only ships that received a required minimum number of
responses from the 28,876 participating readers were eligible to be included in
these rankings. Each ship was rated on seven criteria: Activities/Facilities,
Cabins, Crew/Service, Design/Layout, Food/Dining, Itineraries/Schedule, Shore
Excursions.
