The Australian Bureau of Statistics has released the latest
survey of Tourist Accommodation in Australia for the September Quarter
2011. The following results are based on NSW Establishments (i.e. hotels,
motels and serviced apartments) with at least 15 rooms.
NSW has a total of 1,398 establishments across the State
made up of:
-206 hotels
-998 motels
-194 serviced apartments.
In the September quarter 2011, 6,477 room nights were
available in NSW and the average room rate was $157.44.
The total revenue for all NSW establishments totalled $666.9
million. This represented an increase of 3.5% from September Quarter 2010.
Revenue from Sydney
based accommodation totalled $425 million. In comparison to the previous year,
takings increased by 4.6% (September Quarter 2010).
The Room occupancy rate for Sydney establishments was just under 80 per
cent (79.6%); and 65 per cent for NSW.
Room occupancy in Sydney
has increased slightly, by 0.1 percentage points from the previous year (79.5%
in September Quarter 2010).
