Official Visit of China’s Vice-President to Thailand


Mr. Xi Jinping, Vice-President of the People’s Republic of China, is scheduled to pay an official visit to Thailand as guest of the Thai government from 22 – 24 December 2011.

He is scheduled to have a meeting with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra in order to exchange views on bilateral relations between Thailand and China, regional and international cooperation, and other issues of mutual interest to both countries.

The Chinese Vice-President will also meet prominent persons who are long-time friends of China. He is also expected to visit rehabilitation and shelter centers in the aftermath of the floods in Thailand, and will visit the Confucius Institute at Chulalongkorn University.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vice President will be the highest level representative of the Chinese government to visit Thailand after the formation of the new Thai government, which reflects the continued confidence that China has in Thailand.

The visit will be a good opportunity to review and enhance cooperation in various areas between Thailand and China, and will therefore contribute to the deepening of the strategic partnership between the two countries and the cultivation of personal relationship between the leaders of both nations in the future.
