It’s not until I step back and look at a map of the United States that I remember how lucky I am to live on New Hampshire’s seacoast, and we’ve only got 18 miles of shoreline tucked between Massachusetts and Maine. We’ve got incredible diversity for visitors and some of our most popular attractions might only make sense during certain months and that will be obvious.
To make sure you find something you’ll like, here’s a list of ideas for your visit whether you come for a single day or stay a week or longer.
· Downtown Portsmouth NH is a fantastic place to visit. You’ll want to get out of the car and walk the streets of this historic New England town with great restaurants and fun shops. During the summer you can eat along the Piscataqua River which is beautiful.
· For those who love the water, from Portsmouth you have lots of choices in boating. My favorite is a tugboat ride around the harbor or if you’ve got a day to spend, take a trip out to the Isle of Shoals which is 6 miles off the coast.
· While in Portsmouth you’ll want to visit the Music Hall which completed a full restoration recently, and check out the bathrooms as you won’t find anything else like it in the world. Of course that’s not their main attraction so check out their schedule to see if you can pick up a show, a film festival or any of their amazing cultural shows.
· For history buffs, a visit to Strawberry Banke museum in Portsmouth is a must. You’ll get to see many historic homes that were moved here from all over New England. Tour guides dressed in period costume share stories of life before electricity and central heating, all things we now take for granted.
· When friends come to visit from overseas, they like to make a quick trip up to the outlet malls in Kittery Maine. You’ll find hundreds of brand name stores and the famous Kittery Trading Post.
