While many of us struggle to cook up a meal on a daily basis, ten food
bloggers from Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, United Kingdom and United
States of America, dished out a new recipe for 30 consecutive days using
Royal Selangor's pewter jelly mould designed by English designer, Nick
Munro. The Royal Selangor 'Get Your Jelly On' 30-Day Challenge was
organised in conjunction with Pink October month to raise awareness for
Breast Cancer.
Terri Ng, author of food blog, Hunger Hunger won the first prize. The
mother of three children who lives in Kota Kinabalu still found time to
come up with unique creations with a personal touch that made her a
forerunner in this exciting online challenge. Second prize went to
Malaysian-born Australian, Billy Law of Masterchef Australia fame.
Terri always pushed herself in creating beautiful creations using the
jelly mould. One of her standout creations was a Christmas pudding that
was decorated with green fondant icing to resemble a Christmas tree. For
Halloween, Terri even created a longan jelly called Dragon's Eyeballs.
By Terri placed longans into the jelly mix to create the effect of
floating eyeballs, spooky enough to scare little children.
Throughout the challenge, Billy stuck to his forte - desserts. His
first entry of a Soy Milk jelly set the tone of the competition with a
cheeky 'jiggle-test' video of the jelly jiggling on top of a boombox.
Billy was consistent by offering readers a different dessert everyday
and each creation was not spared from the dangerous 'jiggle test'.
The grand prize of the challenge was a brand new Olympus PEN Lite E-PL3
camera and an all expense paid trip to Kuala Lumpur for two while the
runner-up won a Olympus PEN E-PM1 camera and USD 600 worth of pewter
items. Both, Terri and Billy were recently in Kuala Lumpur for the
prize-giving and also hosted a jelly-making workshop at The Cafe at the
Royal Selangor Visitor Centre. Prize sponsor Olympus also presented a
special food photography workshop.
Commenting on her win, Terri Ng said, ''I am so thrilled and want to
thank my readers who gave suggestions and supported me throughout the
challenge. My readers kept me going, I didn't want to let them down.''
General Manager of Royal Selangor International, Yong Yoon Li said, ''
We are happy that our first ever online campaign was a success. This
definitely won¡¯t be our last and we will continue with our efforts to
raise awareness and funds for the Breast Cancer Welfare Association.''
''All bloggers displayed an admirable amount of dedication for the
challenge. They managed to use the pewter jelly mould to its fullest
potential by making different types of savoury dishes and desserts'', he
added.
In a special competition, the public was invited to vote for their
favourite blogger to be in the running to win the chance to meet the
winning blogger and an Olympus Pen Lite E-PL3 Camera. Ms. Bee Hong Yeo
from Sabah was announced the winner of the competition.
Inspired by mountains that challenge us to overcome our fears, Royal
Selangor's jelly mould is about our appetite for love, life and humour.
The jelly mould is priced at RM 290 and can be purchased at Royal
Selangor retail stores and online at royalselangor.com. RM 80 from each
jelly mould sold will go towards the Breast Cancer Welfare Association
(BCWA).
