The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) took centre stage at CineAsia 2024, held from December 9 to 12 at Icon Cineconic and True Icon Hall, ICONSIAM, in Bangkok. This prestigious event, organized by Film Expo Group, drew over 1,500 film industry professionals from across the globe, including representatives from the United States, Japan, China, South Korea, Malaysia, and India.

Marking its third consecutive year at Icon Cineconic, CineAsia reaffirmed Thailand’s reputation as a world-class destination for film industry gatherings. The event featured exclusive previews of upcoming 2025 releases, cutting-edge cinema technology, and awards celebrating excellence in filmmaking. It also highlighted Thailand's growing influence as a global hub for the film industry.

A Visionary Address from TAT Governor at CineAsia 2024

At the opening ceremony, TAT Governor Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool delivered an inspiring keynote address, showcasing Thailand’s expanding role in the global film industry. “It is an honour to be here at CineAsia 2024, a platform that connects the global film industry with new opportunities for collaboration and growth,” she said. “This aligns perfectly with Thailand’s upcoming ‘Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025’ campaign.”

Ms. Thapanee highlighted notable films shot in Thailand, including Jurassic World (Universal Pictures), filmed in Krabi, Phuket, Chiang Mai, and Bangkok, along with Thai blockbusters How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies and Death Whisperer: Tee Yod. These productions not only showcase Thailand’s diverse landscapes but also demonstrate the country’s versatility as a filming destination that enhances storytelling through its stunning natural and cultural backdrops.

In her speech, Ms. Thapanee also emphasized TAT’s vision to position Thailand among the top global soft power influencers by 2025, leveraging the country’s unique "Thai Charms" and the “5 Must-Do Experiences” – Must Taste, Must Try, Must Buy, Must Seek, and Must See.

Thailand: A Hub for Film Production

Ms. Thapanee further underscored Thailand’s ambition to become a major production hub, offering diverse filming locations, a skilled workforce, and attractive incentives, including a proposed cash rebate of up to 30% per project, with no ceiling. “Thailand is ready to become a global production hub,” she said, “offering unparalleled opportunities for filmmakers to capture the essence of this beautiful country.”

Celebrating Thai Film Success

CineAsia 2024 also celebrated Thailand’s impressive success in the international film market. The Thai blockbuster Death Whisperer: Tee Yod 2 received widespread recognition for its record-breaking revenue, exceeding 1 billion Baht. With screenings scheduled in over 30 countries, including Vietnam, Laos, and Australia, the film is poised to make waves on the global stage.

TAT Hosts Reception Night at ICONSIAM

To honor international attendees, TAT, in collaboration with Major Cineplex Group and Suntory PepsiCo Beverage (Thailand), hosted the CineAsia 2024 Reception Night at Napalai Terrace, ICONSIAM. The riverside event featured captivating performances by Thai stars Nat Myria, Weiwei Han, and Alamina from The Voice Thailand, providing a perfect backdrop for networking and cultural exchange.
