Get ready for an unforgettable celebration of musical theatre! The 2025 Australian Musical Theatre Festival (AMTF) is set to take Launceston, Tasmania by storm from May 21 to May 25, 2025. With an exciting lineup featuring musical theatre legends, emerging talent, and a prestigious collaboration with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, the festival promises to be the highlight of the Australian arts calendar.
A Festival for the Ages
Artistic Director Tyran Parke has unveiled the 2025 festival program, which takes the event to new heights. For the first time in its history, the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (TSO) will play a central role, elevating the festival to a whole new level. Parke promises an extraordinary five days filled with performances, workshops, and special events, all set in the charming city of Launceston, renowned for its thriving food scene and cultural vibrancy.
“The addition of the TSO takes the festival to new levels and makes this a pinnacle event in the Australian musical theatre calendar,” said Parke. “We’re offering a rich and diverse program across various venues, showcasing the talents of both our greatest stars and exciting emerging performers, all set in one of Australia’s most beautiful cities.”
Support from the Tasmanian Government
The Tasmanian Government is proud to support the festival with $640,000 in funding, ensuring that Launceston’s musical theatre scene continues to shine. Minister for Sports and Events, Nick Duigan, emphasized the importance of this festival in boosting the local economy, especially in the winter months.
“We aim to offer a wide range of events that attract visitors and celebrate Launceston’s cultural vibrancy,” said Minister Duigan. “The Australian Musical Theatre Festival is an important part of that vision, and we’re excited to showcase Launceston as a hub for the performing arts.”
