Vietnam has officially launched a new e-visa portal, thithucdientu.gov.vn, starting November 11, 2024, to simplify and streamline the visa application process for international travelers. This move is part of Vietnam’s broader strategy to boost tourism and attract more visitors to the country.
The new e-visa platform will work alongside the existing official website, evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn, which has been processing over 15,000 applications daily. The upgrade aims to further ease the entry process for foreigners by providing a more efficient and user-friendly interface. According to the Ministry of Public Security’s Immigration Department, the new portal includes a Frequently Asked Questions section available in both English and Vietnamese, ensuring accessibility for visitors from all around the world.
Since August 15, 2023, Vietnam has been issuing 90-day e-visas to citizens from all countries and territories, making it easier for travelers to visit without the need to apply for a traditional visa. However, many visitors have faced delays due to mistakes in the application process, often caused by using unofficial websites or submitting incomplete or incorrect information. The Ministry has emphasized the importance of using only the official e-visa portals and ensuring all required fields are filled out accurately to avoid unnecessary rejections or delays.
Vietnam's e-visa program has proven to be a major success. From January to October 2024, the country welcomed over 14 million foreign tourists, marking a 41% increase in arrivals compared to the previous year. This surge in tourism demonstrates the growing appeal of Vietnam as a travel destination. With the launch of the new e-visa portal, officials are optimistic that Vietnam will reach its annual target of 18 million tourists by the end of the year.
The new e-visa system is expected to not only attract more travelers to Vietnam but also make the visa process more efficient, reducing the burden on both applicants and immigration authorities. The convenience of applying for a visa online, coupled with the country’s rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and vibrant cities, positions Vietnam as a top destination for travelers in Southeast Asia.
As Vietnam continues to modernize its tourism infrastructure, the launch of this upgraded e-visa portal is a step forward in making international travel more accessible and convenient for visitors from around the world.
