GLORIOUS GHENT
A favourite with city with Australian travellers, now is the time to re-visit and check out one of the Ghent’s highlights – the restoration of Van Eyck’s Adoration of the Mystic Lamb and the new visitors centre in the crypt of St Bavo’s Cathedral. While this was completed in 2020, with our borders closed, now is the first opportunity to Australian travellers to see the incredible detail that was revealed in the restoration of the artwork also known as Europe’s most stolen piece of artwork. Be sure to stay at least a night in Ghent, it is a destination with many fine restaurants, bars and (unique beers). Recommendations are happily provided on request!

BRUGES BECKONS...
Just 25 minutes away from Ghent by train is Bruges. The stunning city needs little introduction and was recently won 6th place in the category “Small Cities of the World” in the Conde Naste Travellers Awards. Bruges offers a wealth of museums and visitor experiences, but perhaps best of all is wandering the fairytale cobblestone streets – around every corner is a new discovery. Beyond the well-trodden paths, you’ll find specialty shops, many producing original goods handmade in Bruges by local entrepreneurs.

THE BEST BEER (EVER?)...

Regarded by many beer afficionados as the best beer in the world, Westvleteren is a trappist beer, which means it has been brewed within the walls of a monastery supervised by monks. While private sales are very limited, you can be guaranteed to try the beer at the nearby café “In De Vrede”, located 30 minutes drive north of Ypres.
