Take a Majestic Journey through Austria with APT

Guests who travel to Austria on one of APT's Magnificent Europe River cruises in 2015 will experience an unforgettable day journey to Salzburg aboard the Majestic Imperator train.

Lovingly restored by Gottfried Rieck, an Austrian engineer whose career began as a stoker on steam locomotives, the Majestic Imperator is one of the finest remaining relics of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Modelled on the Imperial Train originally built for Emperor Franz Josef I and Empress Elisabeth of Austria, beneath its rich, lustrous interior, it represents centuries of perfectly-preserved history and tradition.

Taking in the breathtaking scenery of Austria's famous Salzkammergut region, APT guests will enjoy morning tea aboard the train before disembarking in Salzburg for a tour, which touches on some of the sights from the classic 'Sound of Music', and the chance to explore Mirabell Gardens and the Great Salzburg Festival Hall. Guests then reboard, enjoying drinks and music en route to Passau, where they will rejoin their river cruise.

The journey, which is exclusive to guests of APT travelling on Magnificent Europe itineraries between Amsterdam and Budapest, is one of the award-winning luxury cruise and tour operators new Signature Experiences – a unique sightseeing program, carefully designed to go beyond the ordinary to deliver truly unforgettable experiences.
