Remembering a Legend Through Art

On January 26, 2020, the world was shaken by the tragic news that NBA icon Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and seven others had died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California. As tributes poured in from around the globe, Los Angeles became the epicenter of remembrance. Landmarks glowed in Lakers purple and gold, memorials filled with flowers and jerseys, and artists across the city picked up their brushes to immortalize Kobe and Gianna through murals.

These murals have become powerful landmarks in Los Angeles, each telling a story of resilience, inspiration, and the profound impact Kobe had on the world. An interactive map by @kobemural now shows over 650 murals in 45 countries, but Los Angeles remains the heart of this global tribute.
