Experience the Spirit of Hula at the Volcano Art Center: Hula Arts at Kīlauea

Hula Arts at Kīlauea
A Cultural Journey at Kīlauea Volcano

Located on the iconic Kīlauea volcano, the Volcano Art Center (VAC) is a hub for the arts, deeply rooted in the culture and traditions of Hawai‘i. The Hula Arts at Kīlauea Program, running from April 12 to June 14, 2025, offers an extraordinary opportunity to experience the beauty and power of traditional Hawaiian hula performances in an authentic outdoor setting.

A Celebration of Hawaiian Culture

The Volcano Art Center, supported by Hawai‘i Tourism’s Kukulu Ola Program, presents this free monthly event designed to honor and perpetuate Native Hawaiian arts and culture. On the second Saturday of each month, visitors can enjoy a live hula performance that showcases the ancient form of Hula Kahiko, which is performed in its purest, most authentic form—without electronic amplification. This creates a truly immersive experience, where the sounds of the hula chants and the rhythm of the dancers resonate through the natural environment, making for an unforgettable cultural experience.

An Authentic Outdoor Experience

This event takes place amidst the stunning landscapes of Kīlauea, providing an intimate connection to the land and the traditions it inspires. The Volcano Art Center encourages visitors to bring sun/rain gear and sitting mats, as the performance will proceed rain or shine. Because parking at the Visitor’s Center is limited, attendees are advised to arrive early, though additional parking is available at the nearby Steam Vents parking lot.

Join the Tradition

The Volcano Art Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the artistic and cultural heritage of Hawai‘i. Since its founding in 1974, VAC has been at the forefront of nurturing the artistic traditions of the islands, offering a range of activities in the visual, literary, and performing arts.

Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity to witness the beauty of Hawaiian hula and learn about the cultural traditions that have shaped the islands for centuries. Whether you're a hula enthusiast or new to Hawaiian arts, this program offers an enriching experience for all.
