This strategic alliance between AIPC and ABEA marks a significant milestone for the business events sector in the region. The announcement was made by Ross Steele, CEO of Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre and AIPC Board Member, alongside Peter King, Chair of ABEA, during the AIPC@AIME summit in February 2025.
The AIPC Academy, a flagship educational initiative that has been successfully implemented globally, will now make its debut in Australia as part of this collaboration. Peter King expressed his excitement about the opportunity, highlighting the positive impact the program will have on the Australian business events community. “By removing financial barriers to participation, this program will provide access to valuable leadership education for professionals across the region,” King said. He also emphasized that this initiative marks the beginning of a long-term partnership between AIPC and ABEA, with more opportunities to follow.
Ross Steele also praised the collaboration, noting that bringing the AIPC Academy to the region aligns with AIPC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with convention centres and adapt the program to local needs. In 2025, AIPC is excited to deliver four Academies globally, with the ANZ Academy being one of the key highlights.
The five-day ANZ Academy program will cover a broad spectrum of leadership and convention centre management topics, combining expert-led lectures with practical exercises. Designed to provide participants with actionable insights, the program will help them immediately apply the knowledge gained to enhance their venues and leadership practices.
The inaugural AIPC ANZ Academy will be hosted by the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), a venue known for fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing. Natalie O’Brien AM, CEO of MCEC, expressed her enthusiasm for hosting the event, stating, “We are excited to offer this unique opportunity for emerging leaders in our industry to learn, collaborate, and advance their careers.” O’Brien also highlighted MCEC’s commitment to the professional development of its team, having previously sent staff to the AIPC Academy in Brussels. Hosting the Academy in Melbourne will provide a valuable opportunity for convention centres across the region to benefit from this exceptional program.
To ensure the Academy is managed to the highest standards, ABEA and AIPC have partnered with REVSTAR Group, a Melbourne-based agency renowned for its expertise in the business events and hospitality sectors. The group will oversee the project management of the Academy, ensuring a smooth and impactful learning experience.
The ABEA and AIPC ANZ Academy is poised to be a transformative educational experience for convention centre leaders in the region, providing them with the tools and knowledge to shape the future of the industry. Full details of the program, along with registration information, are available on the AIPC website.
This exciting collaboration between ABEA and AIPC represents a major step forward for the Australian and New Zealand convention centre sector, offering unparalleled educational opportunities for emerging leaders and driving the future of the business events industy.
AIPC (International Association of Conference Centres) partnered with AIME (Asia Pacific Incentives and Meetings Expo) for a groundbreaking collaboration to host a unique summit for convention centers.
