Angkor Goes Digital: A New Era for Cambodian Tourism with Self-Serve Ticketing

Angkor's new digital ticketing system
The majestic temples of Angkor, Cambodia’s crown jewel of ancient history, are now more accessible than ever, thanks to a new digital ticketing system aimed at improving the visitor experience. The Royal Government of Cambodia recently launched the Angkor ticketing system reform, which includes the installation of self-serve ticketing machines across Siem Reap city. This modern approach is set to make visiting the Angkor Archaeological Park more convenient, efficient, and seamless for international tourists.

Fifteen self-service machines have been strategically placed in key locations around Siem Reap, allowing tourists to easily purchase their entrance tickets to the world-renowned Angkor temples. The machines are part of a larger initiative to streamline ticketing procedures and reduce the complexity of the previous system, which required more detailed information from visitors. Now, tourists can simply select their ticket type—whether it’s for a one-day, three-day, or week-long visit—and complete their purchase on the spot.

The new ticketing system offers a range of options, making it easier for both individual tourists and travel agencies to purchase passes. In addition to the self-service machines, the Angkor Enterprise has enhanced its online and mobile app platforms, enabling visitors to buy tickets in advance from anywhere. This upgrade aligns with the ongoing evolution of Cambodia’s tourism sector, embracing information technology to improve convenience for international visitors.

The ticket prices are also designed to accommodate different types of visitors. A one-day pass costs $37, while a three-day pass is available for $62, and a week-long ticket for $72. With these options, tourists can choose the best fit for their schedules and interests.

Cambodia’s tourism has experienced significant growth, with more than 1 million international visitors purchasing tickets to Angkor in 2024. This marks an impressive 28.3% increase from the previous year. The rise in tourism is attributed to Cambodia’s peaceful and stable environment, which continues to attract global travelers. With these developments, the government aims to exceed 7 million international tourists in 2025.

This initiative not only simplifies the ticketing process but also enhances the overall experience for tourists visiting Angkor, allowing them to focus more on the awe-inspiring temples and less on logistical concerns. The launch of the self-service machines marks a significant step forward in Cambodia’s efforts to modernize and streamline tourism infrastructure, ensuring that Angkor remains a top destination for travelers from around the world.

For those planning a trip to Cambodia’s iconic Angkor temples, the new digital ticketing system offers an easy, fast, and modern way to explore the wonders of this ancient archaeological site. Whether purchasing tickets in person, online, or through the app, visitors can now enjoy a more convenient and efficient experience from the moment they arrive.
