Destination NSW Launches New Support for Caravan and Camping Industry

Caravan and Camping in NSW
Caravan and camping enthusiasts have even more reason to explore regional New South Wales, thanks to a new initiative by Destination NSW in partnership with the Caravan and Camping Industry Association. The ‘Feel More, Live More’ campaign aims to boost year-round visitation to the state’s 400 holiday parks, ensuring travelers experience the best of NSW in all seasons.

This initiative comes on the heels of a record-breaking summer, where NSW holiday parks saw an 81% occupancy rate during the New Year week, the highest in four years. To sustain this momentum, the campaign is designed to highlight the benefits of caravan and camping holidays beyond summer, encouraging visitors to explore in autumn, winter, and spring.

A Key Driver for NSW’s Tourism Growth

Minister for Tourism John Graham underscored the vital role of the caravan and camping sector in NSW’s tourism economy, stating, “NSW is the number one destination in Australia for caravan and camping holidaymakers, and the NSW Government is committed to continuing to support the sector and the valuable contribution it makes to growing the visitor economy.”

With an ambitious goal to reach $91 billion in annual visitor economy expenditure by 2035, Graham emphasized that the caravan and camping industry will play a key role in driving investment and job creation across regional NSW. Tourism Research Australia data reinforces this, showing that NSW leads the country in domestic overnight caravan and camping visitors, nights, and expenditure. In the year ending September 2024, five million domestic overnight visitors enjoyed a caravan and camping experience in the state.

More Than a Summer Getaway

NSW Caravan and Camping Industry Association CEO Lyndel Gray highlighted the state’s natural beauty and the industry’s evolving appeal: “We have some of the country’s most beautiful scenery, which gives us a natural advantage when it comes to camping and caravanning, and we’re coming off a period of bumper bookings.”

She added, “With the summer holidays behind us, as we all go back to work and day-to-day life, we want people to be inspired to plan and book their next holiday and enjoy regional NSW in the cooler months. Holiday parks have become more than a once-a-year destination. They offer a wealth of attractions in some of the best locations where people can reconnect with nature or enjoy the local scene, making them ideal year-round destinations.”

Expanding Reach with ‘Feel More, Live More’

Acting Chief Executive Officer of Destination NSW, Karen Jones, emphasized the campaign’s role in promoting year-round adventure: “Caravan and camping experiences are a cornerstone of regional tourism in NSW, offering visitors the chance to embrace nature, unwind in stunning locations, and enjoy a sense of fun and adventure all year round.”

The ‘Feel More, Live More’ campaign will be showcased on television across NSW and extend its reach into regional Victoria, the ACT, and Southern Queensland. Social media and digital content will further amplify the campaign’s message, inspiring travelers from neighboring states to discover NSW’s scenic holiday parks.

As an extension of Destination NSW’s Feel New brand, ‘Feel More, Live More’ aligns with sustainable tourism growth strategies, complementing other regional initiatives such as the Recharge Here campaign, which promotes electric vehicle-friendly road trips across NSW.
