The extensive renovation has encompassed every aspect of the hotel, from the furnishings through to building systems. Architects and interior designers were enlisted to ensure the classic Samoan architecture was maintained amidst the modern enhancements, preserving the charm of the original design, and striking a balance between the timeless beauty of the past and the contemporary allure of the present. This harmonious blend of old and new is sure to offer guests a unique and memorable stay. Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Hotel & Bungalows is just a 45-minute drive from Samoa’s Faleolo international airport, and is located on Apia Harbour, with regular ferries from Tokelau and American Samoa.
Frank Lu, General Manager for Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Hotel & Bungalows, is delighted to welcome guests back to the property. He said, “Our hotel has been Samoa’s first port of call to visitors since opening in 1933, and carries the legacy of our namesake Aggie Grey, a pioneer in Samoa’s tourism industry. We are thrilled to continue to honour that legacy and begin welcoming locals and international visitors back to our grand jewel; Samoa’s original gathering place ”.
On arrival, guests will be greeted by the hotel’s refreshed historic facade and extended pick-up and drop-off area, before being welcomed into the fully remodelled lobby with a new, open concept in keeping with Samoa’s traditional bungalows, called fales, and a sleek new design. The first phase of completed bungalows and suites will showcase the hotel’s new stylish decor and improved modern amenities, whilst preserving the property’s heritage. Guests will also be able to enjoy international cuisine at the newly reopened poolside restaurant, Feast, as well as light refreshments, freshly brewed coffee and tea at Tea House, and expertly crafted cocktails at the Lobby Bar. The fresh water lap pool is also available for guests' enjoyment.
Once the revamp is complete, the hotel’s 25 signature fales will be redesigned, and the hotel will launch three new luxury suites. All conference and events spaces and Aggie Grey’s restaurant will be fully renovated, as well as upgrades to the swimming pool and Pool Bar, the spa facilities and other structural improvement.
The renovation will also introduce elements aligned with the Sheraton global transformation empowering people to come together and make new connections. Inspired by Samoa’s rich cultural heritage, the open welcoming culture is embedded in the spirit of aiga (family) that comes to life in public spaces and runs deep, connecting guests to the local culture and traditions..
Originally opened in 1933 by Samoan entrepreneur and tourism pioneer Aggie Grey, the hotel became a popular meeting place for American servicemen stationed in Samoa during World War II. Over time, the hotel gained a loyal fan base of celebrities and VIPs, including many notable actors such as Marlon Brando, Gary Cooper and Dorothy Lamour, and developed a reputation for its world-class offering. Today, the Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Hotel & Bungalows is renowned as an icon of Samoa, bringing together old-world charm and Samoan hospitality.
Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey's Hotel & Bungalows has re-opened for soft launch with 56 completed rooms and three food and beverage outlets available for bookings. The hotel is expected to officially launch with full room inventory, additional food and beverage outlets and facilities in October 2024.
