Tourism soars in China’s Yunnan over 8-day holiday

Over the Mid-Autumn Festival and National DayTourism soars in China's Yunnan.

Yunnan, one of the most popular tourist destinations in China, experienced a significant tourism surge during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday that ended on Friday.

The southwestern province’s tourism-related sectors provided services to over 45 million tourist trips and visits over the eight-day holiday, generating a total revenue of 45.53 billion yuan (about 6.34 billion U.S. dollars).

These figures represent respective year-on-year increases of 98.3 percent and 192.5 percent, calculated based on daily averages, according to the provincial culture and tourism department.

Notably, rural tourism gained significant momentum, with more than 18 million tourists embarking on countryside journeys across the province during the period, reflecting year-on-year growth of 124.7 percent.

During the long holiday, people in China made 826 million domestic tourist trips, an increase of 71.3 percent from last year and 4.1 percent from 2019, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
