Rockhampton's Fitzroy River (Tunuba) is hosting the ultimate angler's adventure with the return of Fishing The Fitzroy's $10K Thready Competition.
Rockhampton may be best known as the Barra Capital but the Fitzroy River (Tunuba) is also home to monster hard-fighting king threadfin, making Rockhampton the perfect destination for keen anglers to get in on the region's richest competition, Fishing The Fitzroy's $10K Thready.
Open to anglers of all skill levels, this annual competition runs during Rockhampton's Barramundi closed season between 1 November 2023 and 31 January 2024, with a $10,000 cash prize up for grabs to the first person to catch a tagged king threadfin in the Fitzroy River system.
Fishing The Fitzroy's $10K Thready Competition builds upon Rockhampton's impressive major events calendar and will continue to help spread the word of our region's unique tourism offering of chasing trophy sized fish in the heart of the city.
No boat? No worries! Rockhampton has a number of great fishing charters and dry boat hire options to get visitors out on the water for fully catered half and full day tours. Alternatively, visitors can fish the Fitzroy from one of the many land-based fishing platforms, including two wheelchair accessible platforms, around the region.
