The Headland Hotel and Spa, Cornwall overlooks Newquay’s Fistral Beach

Headland Hotel and Spa
The five-star Headland Hotel and Spa stands on the cliffs overlooking Newquay’s Fistral Beach.

First opened in 1900, the hotel went through a heyday and then decline before being purchased by John and Carolyn Armstrong in 1979.

The couple remain the current owners and, over four decades £30 million of improvements and repairs, have turned The Headland from dereliction into an award winning destination hotel.

It offers 91 bedrooms, a state of the art-gym, a five-bubble-rated spa, a six-pool Aqua Club and three restaurants with some of the best sea views in Cornwall.

The Headland champions the ability of the hospitality industry to be an inclusive employer, with over twelve people with additional needs participating in extended work experiences.

There are partnerships with local schools and colleges and the ongoing ‘paid summer placement for young people’ series which sees ten 14–15-year-olds completing a summer learning about all the differing roles at the hotel.

Each week, the hotel provides DISC Newquay with its weekly delivery of fruit and has distributed over £30,000 in grants via the Cornwall Community Foundation.

The hotel also supports Newquay Food Bank when they are in need of particular food or items to support their efforts. In early 2023, the Headland launched Restaurant RenMor, offering a taste of Cornish food with sunset views.
