A Christmas Market behind bars
In addition to the main Christmas market, visitors can take in a Christmas Market in the former Lukiskes Prison.
The Prison complex survived both World Wars and the Soviet occupation, operating from 1904 to 2019.
The complex now hosts cultural, music and art events, with the gastronomy based Christmas markets being held 7 to 10 and 14 to 17 December 2023.
Ice skating
An ice skating rink will be erected in the inner courtyard of Valdovu Rumai, the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania.
Previously, the palace was a political, diplomatic, administrative and cultural centre of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
Liepkalnis Water Storage
The historical underground water storage in the city is now a visitor attraction and for Christmas it’s set to feature a fire installations exhibition.
Best Christmas decorations
In Vilnius there’s a tradition where all the local businesses compete in a contest of the best Christmas decorations.
Vilnius is known for its baroque architecture, especially in its medieval Old Town. The buildings lining this district’s partially cobblestoned streets reflect diverse styles and eras, from the neoclassical Vilnius Cathedral to Gothic St. Anne's Church.
